This is Wednesday, June 3, 2020, a day during the worst pandemic in over 100 years, when over 40 million Americans have lost their jobs, many of whom have taken to the streets, risking their lives, to show solidarity for the Black Lives Matter movement due to yet another senseless, ruthless killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, under the knee, and watch, of Minnesota police. Our POTUS thinks dominating the situation using massive military and police force will solve the problem and has no words of comfort or reconciliation to offer the masses. This is the way of a dictator, not a democratic leader. For the most part, the protestors are peaceful and determined to finally roll the big wheel of change that has been locked and rusty from centuries of relentless oppression towards minorities, especially African Americans. There are factions of the population who have turned to looting and violence. They see an opportunity amidst the disruption to swarm the streets breaking into buildings, setting fire to structures, police cars, and generally wreaking havoc, something the peace protestors have tried to stop on many occasions. Their looting is nothing compared to the massive shift of wealth to the 1% that is still occurring with lots of help from the Trump administration. America is at war with itself. Poverty, racism, and too many injustices to count have laid bare this gaping wound threatening to destroy our democracy.
We are at a tipping point, we have reached critical mass. There is no going “back” to normal. Normal has become a perversion. Until every human being in this country can be assured of the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” and be assured equal justice under the law, as our Declaration of Independence states, our lives will continue to be subjected to the vagaries of an unfair system. It is time for that new paradigm; one based on love, compassion and mutual respect instead of hate, greed and special protections for the rich and powerful. Way past time. May all citizens realize these “unalienable rights” which the Declaration of Independence says have been given to all humans by their creator, and which governments are created to protect. This is our mission. It is NOT impossible, it is imperative for peace to prevail. Our fragile democracy is under attack from within. I pray we survive, and then thrive, after this most dangerous and life-altering challenge. One of the biggest challenges is what will be the aftermath of all this non-social distancing during this very infectious pandemic. The scenes of thousands gathering all across the World in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement; the Everyone Matters Movement, is both inspiring and frightening. Covid-19 is here, there and everywhere. Will all these wonderful protestors be spared because of their righteous commitments? It is yet to be seen. We need a divine intervention!! Please!! And remember: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
