During the late 1960s and mid-1970s a revolution was taking place with young people. We were “Turning on, Tuning In, and Dropping Out” led by Timothy O’Leary, a Harvard psychologist who experimented with LSD, and influenced by beat poets from the late 1950’s like Allen Ginsburg and author Jack Kerouac. The “Hippie Movement” flourished among the Baby Boomers who protested against the Viet Nam War, and were active in the Civil Rights movement. I was one of those idealistic hippies who believed in Peace, Love and Understanding and wanted to explore a world outside of America. My journey led me to the Hippie Trail with a few other friends, a journey that shaped the rest of my life in so many ways. This is the story of that amazing transformational year that started in California, then New York, on to Milan, Italy, across the mid-east to India, and eventual spiritual rebirth in Kathmandu.
